LA Great Streets

Mayor Eric Garcetti announced the creation of the LA Great Streets Program focusing on specific improvements to define corridors throughout Los Angeles. The working group is expected to closely coordinate with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power as well as the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).

Westwood Blvd. between Le Conte & Wilshire has been named a Great Street! Built to capture the burgeoning car culture of 1920s Los Angeles, Westwood Village is where Westside and UCLA come together. Today, Great Streets seeks to capture the tens of thousands of Angelenos who passes through Westwood Village every day by car, foot, transit, and bicycle. Great Streets will partner with the Westwood Village Improvement Association and other community partners to support efforts to maximize community access, reduce commercial vacancies, and improve parking management in the Village.

The LA Great Streets Program is formally created through an executive directive, which creates a working group composed of the following departments:

  • Department of City Planning
  • Department of Cultural Affairs
  • Department of Transportation
  • Department of Public Works
  • Bureau of Engineering
  • Bureau of Street Services
  • Bureau of Street Lighting
  • Bureau of Sanitation
  • Economic & Workforce Development Department
  • A comprehensive matrix of project elements and associated costs
  • Strategy for the coordination of city services to Great Streets
  • Project implementation timeline
  • A funding strategy
  • Metrics and benchmarks to evaluate and track project impacts
